Christmas Crochet
How large of a square (x2) do I need to crochet an 18" pillow?
I am crocheting a pillow for the first time and cannot find any info online about how big to make it. I am not using a granny square style because it is a pillow for my boyfriend using his teams favorite colors (granny square would be too girlie). I am afraid of making it too big or too small. PLEASE HELP! Trying to get it done before Christmas. Thanks!
I am assuming you are going to start at one side and crochet across to the other side? Then you will need to cast on enough to cover 18 inches. You might want to make one or two extra stitches, for sewing on the backing. And then you would work in rows until you have another 18 inches done, or again one more row extra to allow for a seam when sewing on the backing. If you are going to crochet both the front and the back, then you can just work the 18 inches for one side, and just continue on to the other side for another 18. Then fold it over, and you will only have to sew two seams, stuff the pillow, seam the last side shut, and you are done!
If you are going to start in the centre, then you can cast on as few as 6 or 8 and then work round and round in a square. But I think working row by row, from one side to the other would probably work a little easier, depending of course on the design you are using.
