Crochet Summer
What knowledge or things are past down from generation to generation in your family?
This summer, I am learning how to crochet. My mom is teaching me this, and she told me that she learned to knit and crochet by her mom (my yiayai). 
)
So, what sort of things were taught or pass down from one generation to the next in your family?
My father is full blood Cherokee. It's a tradition that when the first time comes for the girl to cut her hair, we keep it in a bag (as a sign of "growing up"). We also do this when someone has a major surgery.
As for my mother's side (my grandmother came to NYC during the potato crises in Ireland) she's taught me how to... Well, drink, and be able to hold your liquor (no joke!). She dislikes stereo typical gals nowadays that whine when they get smashed or dramatic. Rule 1) Don't puke in front of anyone. Rule 2) Don't pee on yourself (or anyone else). Rule 3) If you think you should get emotional, start a fight... I'll kick your ass if you start crying.
