Knit Cables
Can anyone stop my hate for knitting cables?
Every time I knit cables, I get ladders on the sides of the cable. Is there any way to actually prevent this? I hate them! I actually nearly have a heart attack each time I attempt to knit them lol. Can anyone help me?
I am not dropping stitches and the pattern says that I have to purl before and after the cable which is knitted. It's not the pattern at all. I just get ladders 
I don't quite understand what you mean by ladders right next to the cable. Do you mean all the way up the column? Or do you mean right on that row where the cable crossed?
Yes, you will get a bit of a "ladder" right where the cable crosses. Don't let that bother you. Do the rest the the rows -- you will find that it isn't as noticeable when you get more done. Remember that the stitches all even themselves out when you wash your piece after you complete the knitting.
If you are getting a whole line of ladders all the way up the column next to the cable, and you are making purl stitches before and after the knit cable, it may be because you are not moving your yarn BEFORE you make the next stitch. You need to get the yarn into position BEFORE you insert your needle to make the next stitch. So in effect what you may be doing is making a YO (a hole) when you switch from purl to knit and again knit to purl. This is quite a common error.
It would help if we could see a pic of your work -- then it is easier to understand exactly what you mean, and we could see where you were having trouble. Sometimes what you think you are doing may be totally different when we see you doing it.
