Snowflake Crochet
Problems with sugar starching my crocheted snowflakes?
The first time I starched I had great results. Impossible to recreate the results. Have used varying amounts of sugar, baked and not boiled. Am now getting a rubbery, translucent or sticky Granular finish on the product. About to give up and use a commercial product. Has anyone advice how I can get a nice, solid finish for my own crocheted snowflakes.
The "standard" recipe for sugar "starch" is 3 parts sugar to 1 part water heated and stirred until the sugar is dissolved in water and you have a supersaturated solution. Then you dip the snowflakes and the pins flat on a blocking board until they are dry.
